My dear Friends, Followers and Favourites,
The time has, alas, come to say goodbye. Just over a year ago I knew nothing of weblogging. Indeed, I barely new how to open the computer. Encouraged by those close to me, I began to write my garden journal, always promising myself that I should do so for a year.
The year has quickly come and gone and I now feel that I can no longer give the time to write my postings, to respond to the many, many comments and, most importantly, to read and enjoy your wonderfully varied and interesting writings. I shall, I know, miss you all dreadfully and thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of your kindnesses and support. I wish you much happiness and success in the future. A very happy and peaceful Easter to you all.
Edith

Edith - I was awaiting your next posting with anticipation ... but now I read such sad news. I appreciated your quality rather than quantity posting strategy. Antway, Good Luck to you in your future ventures.
Dearest, darling E, Say it isn't so....
I shall miss you terribly, you gave the most insightful comments on my blog, and always left me thinking! I know that responding to the multitude of comments is a vast task, certainly with the huge numbers you receive.
Remember, if you ever find your way to canada, or Barbados, you always have a friend and a place to stay.
Love D xoxo

I am sorry to hear that. On the other hand, you will probably spend more time in the garden, and enjoy your travels more. Good luck with whatever you will be doing!
This is an 'old bloggers never die, they simply fade away' post. Thanks for telling us Goodbye. You leave a gap in the blogosphere, that will be forever 'Edith Hope'.
I wish you well, my friend. I hope you might consider keeping your lovely blog open and posting only occasionally. Happy Easter to you and yours. Love to you. x

Oh Edith,
I am so sad to hear this.....you are one of my favourite bloggers and I always look forward to your wonderful posts and your lovely comments. I do hope that you might reconsider but, I do know how much time it takes to give oneself fully to blogging so I do understand. I send you much love and hope that, now and again, you might just give us one of your wonderful posts. Enjoy the Summer, especially the garden !! With much love to you Edith. I shall miss you. XXXX
We are so fortunate to have been your blogging friends, Edith. Your sage advice and informative posts have been a delight. We hope you will drop by all our blogs on occasion. Take care.
Oh, dear Edith, I'm sorry to read this. I have so enjoyed visiting your blog, and appreciated all of your support tremendously. I however understand how much time it takes to write, and edit, and craft a blog. Some days, they seem to develop lives of their own. You shall be terribly missed, but am so happy to have 'met' you, even virtually. Do take good care. I wish you good health, happiness, and a joyous Easter. - Clare
Dearest Edith, I wish you well on your life journey and delightful adventures. It's been a joyful/enriching experience knowing you, cherished friend.

I am so sorry to see you leave us, Edith. I have enjoyed your writing and travels very much. I wish you the best for all your future endeavors. You will be dearly missed.
Dear Edith...I will miss you sorely as I have in the last couple months. You have been so encouraging and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I understand the whys, but hope you will find time now and then to visit or leave a note on your blog. Take care and I wish you joyful days filled filled with bliss.
I had been wondering how you were since you hadn't posted for awhile. I've enjoyed your blog and all I've learned from it. I also have always enjoyed the nice comments you left, however would I have learned what a 'bothy' was if it wasn't for you? Take care!
Dear Edith, I've enjoyed the short time I've had with you. I don't know if you were aware, but you were on my list of blog favorites, and I know you were a favorite of many. A large part of that was the time you took to connect with people, answering each and every comment. Your year was a great success, and I wish you every happiness in the future.
I have been wondering where you were. I am sorry you are leaving. Perhaps you will miss us and return. Best wishes to you.
Edith,
I have been missing your witty and educational posts...so sorry to hear that you are "retiring"
I understand that there is a lot of work that goes into a blog and you do have a very busy social life, and a home and garden to run, so I understand completely.
I have enjoyed your year, thank you.
Hostess
I hope you won't find it too selfish of me to hope that you'll miss blogging too much and return :) But if you don't, I just want to say that I enjoyed what writings you have posted!
Dear Edith: I am very sad about your news, and yet I am happy if you are happy. You were one of the first Blotanical friends to leave notes on my blog, and I was so encouraged by your thoughtful comments. I always looked forward to your comments and your well-written posts. I hope that you will stop by Blotanical from time to time. Have a Blessed Easter! Beth
It is a belated 1st of April joke, isn't it?
Dear Edith, you brought so much to our community of garden bloggers. What you gave us is priceless. To me, you showed class! You are a classy lady! I will always remember you with a smile!
Thank you for your kind comments on my blog. They meant a lot to me. I totally understand your decision. Blogging is an extremly time-consuming job (if to do this job well). All the best to you.

You are a unique lady and will be sorely missed by many. Wishing you all the best for the future. May the sun shine on you and your garden xxx

I have so enjoyed reading your blog... it was a gift for a year. Thank you so much.
Thank you also for all the delightful comments you left on my blog. I so appreciate your support.
I will think of you often as I am constructing a BOTHY and have aquired the promise of the "tattered armchair" from a friend. The bothy has electricity so "tea making facilities" will be installed shortly. I do hope you drop by to see me post about it.
I wish you every success in the future.
Dear Edith, I was waiting with great anticipation for your next post, and I guess it will not come. Always good to go out on a high point as evidenced by all the above comments. Hope you had that talk with your gardener. Good luck, Carolyn
Dear Edith.I am so sorry to hear that you will no longer be posting. I have enjoyed your stories and wisdom so much.I wish you well mu friend in all that you do. Blessings. Lona
I was feeling spring nigh in my garden, and wondered what a good friend was up to across the pond. You express so well the commitment of blogging: posting, responding, and visiting...I can appreciate your decision as you probably weighed many criteria. I wish you all the best.
P.S. I hope you keep this site open for periodic posts whenever you feel a particular nudge from the garden.
Edith, that makes me so very sad. But I'm a great believer in doing what you need to do. I hope that some day, one day our paths might cross. It would be a joy. I hope that your life continues to be lived with wit, whimsy and all things wonderful. Thank you so much for all the funny, kind and just downright cheeky comments on my blog over this past year. I will miss you and them very much. xx
I'll miss you, but wishing you the best of luck!~ Take care Edith and have a very happy Easter!
Hugs,
Jutka
It has been a pleasure following your blog. Thank you for all the effort that you put into it. We are all the richer for it! Best luck in your endeavors. Reggie
Dear Edith Hope,
I want to thank you for all your beautiful posts - I will miss you very, very much!!! The last weeks I felt just that, when I looked if something new was written by you. You have a great gift for writing, are curious and very well educated and know to entertain and teach us something - that the highest degree of writing, I think. Thank you for that!
Though I regret your leaving us with all my heart, I can understand you: you must have put a lot of power and strength and time into your writing and your highly personal comments. Maybe you write a book now? If so: please let us know!
I wish you all the very best for the time being and your future. God bless you, and thank you again, dear Edith!
Yours with love and respect
Britta
I have not only enjoyed your blog and the comments that you have left for others, but discovered other lovely blogs through you. You will be missed. Thank you.
I am so very sad for you to leave your blog but I can understand tremendously. Blogging is so time consuming and such a hard balance to achieve, at least for me. I thank you for your support and the joy of stopping bye to read your marvelous pieces. May the months ahead be joyous and for-filling; you will be missed. Happy Easter to you Edith!
Cheers ~ Deb
Sorry to see you go, but I understand the need to devote time to other pursuits. Good luck with that. Thank you for your comments on my blog from time to time. You can still do that! All the best.
Dear Edith, I am going to miss your wonderful stories. I hope you keep the blog posted so I can go back and read selections from your archives from time to time. :)
All the very best, dear lady.
Dearest Edith, aw, how I will miss you. I truly think it was your kind comments on my blog that attracted visitors to my site. And you have said farewell on my birthday. If you have success in book writing, get in touch let me know, for I am not even sure if Edith Hope is the name which I should be looking for. I wish you every happiness in the future. Your friend Alistair.
Dear Edith
Like the others commenting before me, I shall be sad to see you go.
Take care and do come back - if only occasionally.
Johnson
You shall be missed.
Edward and I wish you the best.

Dear Edith, I have been thinking about you (while toiling about in the vegetable garden) and decided I'd best check on you.
It has been an utter joy to have "met" you through your writing.
Should you ever find your way to our neck of the woods, we will stroll the paths and kibitz about the various species of plants and trees within the garden, perhaps of J and his wonderful work, enjoy a cup of tea in the gazebo...
God speed, dear Edith.
Dear Edith,
We'll miss you,your writings,and your kindness...
all the best.
Dear Edith,
Just found your post and feel very saddened to hear that you are no longer going to appear. I shall miss your wonderful and fascinating posts. How about doing it for just one more year....please?
I wish you well in your new editing life. It is important to seek out new challenges.
Eileen
Boo! The time went much too quickly. Thanks for sharing yourself with us, you will be missed.
May the road invite you onward
May the wind always be at your back
And may the Good Lord keep you
Safe in the palm of his hand
X
Dear Edith, say it ain't so!
Perhaps you will reconsider; you could post once or twice a month and keep in touch with less effort than more postings.
Well, have a Blessed Easter and lots of happy adventures in the future, if this is truly good-bye.
Terra
Dear Edith,
I see your post is already a week old. Somehow somehow I missed it. I cannot tell you how sorry I am to read you stop blogging altogether.
I enjoyed reading your stories about gardens, people, places I have never been to and your way of living. I wish I could persuade you to post less frequently, but continue blogging.
I had the same problem last year. My work and social life take up much time. I post less frequently now and only when I have enough time left. I sometimes feel bad about not always leaving comments, but that's just the way it is...Can't the same construction work for you?
Wish you all the best!
Lieve groet, Madelief
Dear Edith,
Have loved your essays: wise insights, elegantly phrased, about the garden and so much more, are always valuable. I hope and feel sure you'll continue writing in other venues, for other audiences.
With best regards from the Chicago Lake Plain,
Adrian
Edith, I love your writing and your style. You are a lady with substance and class. I'm glad our paths crossed and I shall miss you. But deep in my heart I know that a writer never stops writing, so do come back whenever you feel like it. Meanwhile, I'd like to wish you all the very best of luck in your future undertakings!
Dearest Edith, We understand, we do, we just don't like it. I, myself will miss you greatly, in fact I feel a great loss has fallen on the blogshere. Where ever you are and will be, take care, good luck, and thank you. Kevin
Edith, I have 'quit' blogging twice and as you can see, it didn't work;-) Just sayin'. But I really do understand and respect your decision. Perhaps you will prove to be less indecisive than I was;-) On the other hand, changing your mind is a woman's perogative, so, please do feel free to come back at any time! I know it can become demanding to keep a blog, especially visiting and commenting on other blogs and chatting with your readers. That is still a hurdle that I am not managing as well as I would like. I don't worry about that as much now, though, and mostly blog when I like & if I visit others once in a six month period, then I'm doing well. Perhaps you will stop by and say hi within the next 6 months?! I do hope so! Warm wishes to you, Edith.
Oh, dear Edith, you will be missed. I have so enjoyed your well-written posts. Your clear, evocative writing style puts me right there, experiencing the moment with you, and it has been such a privilege and a pleasure to share your blogging journey with you.
Wishing you all the best life has to offer... and especially, much joy in the garden!
Sad beyond sad. Yours was one of the most entertaining and delightful of blogs.
Definitely not dull....an unfortunate blog trait if you ask me.
I do hope you are well and cheerful and if you ever find yourself in New York......
Your blog was such fun while it lasted.
Dear Edith,
I read this post with more than a twinge of regret but with complete understanding. Maintaining a blog - particularly one as thoughtful and well-written as yours - is very time-consuming. I anticipate bringing my own to a close sometime within the next year.
If you have any tips for gardens to visit in Oxford, I will be there for a week in August visiting a friend after a week in Paris celebrating my 60th birthday with my sons. Any suggestions appreciated if you are still reading your comments!
Melissa
I have enjoyed your blog hugely. I haven't always commented for all the reasons of time and the other demands upon it that you will understand, but I have always read and admired your elegant and careful writing. I hope you might drop in on the world of blogging now and then but if you don't, thank you for all the pleasure you have given over the past year.
Dear, dear Edith,
I simply can't imagine the blogsphere without you.
warmest wishes and good health to you!
Dear Edith, Let me tell you, you are the best story teller I have ever come across. Its been a pleasure reading your work n would have loved to get to known you in person as well. Will miss you n your blog for sure. All the best in life.
Regards, Radhika @ Evergreen Tree
Edith, Your blog was always interesting, charming and almost like ready a good chapter of a good book! In a year, you had 194 followers sign on. In a year, I only got 16 for my painting blog and 20 on my creative cottage blog. Doesn't that prove how enjoyable your blog was? You were very successful and I hope the future will hold many bright moments, too. Egretta
Edith, I raise my cup to you! You have been a devoted friend to many that you have never met. I know that you stopped by by blog to comment frequently, and I so appreciate that! Now, I say, good for you, enjoy your wonderful time away but maybe check in every few months. You are a grand lady. Best wishes to you.xo Jill
Dear Edith - I have just come back to visit your blog (the first time in a while) to see you are no longer blogging. What sad news! Good luck for the future and thank you for the kind comments you have previously left on my nascent blog. All best wishes, GirlAboutGarden.
Edith, I hope you stop in every now and again. I'll miss you. I know how this blogging can be...it's a lot of work. All my best. Hugs.
Edith, the blogsphere will all the poorer for your absence, but all the richer for you having graced it for a year. all the very best, catmint
Dear Edith, I'm so sorry to see you go as both your own posts and your comments were always thoughtful and fun to read. I'm responding very late to your farewell post as I myself am having trouble keeping up with blogging, so understand you well. I wish you all the best, good health, and if you ever feel like keeping in touch, please do. Barbara in Mannheim, Germany
Dear Edith,
You will be dearly missed, and I have missed you already. You have been such an encouragement to me and others by your writing and comments.
I understand and wish you the best in the future. My blogging adventure also started a year ago in May.
~ Julie
Missing you, dear Edith.
